President's Message

October 2009

Dear Tax Collectors,

At this writing, we have returned from the 71st Annual Conference held at the historic and uniquely New Hampshire venue, The Balsams Grand Resort Hotel. The timely and informative topics, from “The New Collector’s Round Table” on Wednesday to the closing presentation, “What Are Our Rights as Appointed & Elected Officials?” were of the highest standards we have come to expect from the Education Committee.

As we reflect on the subjects presented and their applications in our daily work, it is of particular interest that we receive information and even guidance in the area of credit card acceptance. To that end, the Executive Board has formed a committee to work with the Department of Revenue and Local Government Center to assist us in navigating through this complex subject. The committee is made up of Becky Benvenuti of Newmarket, Cheryl Bolouk of Salem and Joe Wiggett of Littleton; a stellar committee that we can expect accurate and comprehensive information to assist our organization.

As with all things, change is inevitable; whether we are talking about processes and procedures or changes in committee members. This year we bid adieu to Convention Coordinator, Desiree Mahurin. Desiree has done an excellent job in organizing and coordinating all aspects of our conference functions for the past four years. Desiree has committed to assisting our new Convention Coordinator, Theresa Briand of Litchfield. We sincerely thank Desiree for her amazing efforts as we welcome Theresa to the Board.

Another major change is that Education Chairperson Cheryl Bolouk has accepted the position of Second Vice President and has handed over the education reins to Diane Trippett of Merrimack. Cheryl has served as the Education Chair for nine years, holding down one of the most demanding positions on the Board. Again, as we welcome Diane to the Board, sincere thanks go out to Cheryl for her exceptional work on behalf of this organization.

Our Association is incredibly fortunate to have such a talented group of contributors to our profession. Please accept my personal invitation to attend an Executive Board meeting and experience first hand your Association at work.

In closing, I would just like to express my gratitude for the opportunity to serve as your President this year. I look forward to the experience of working with and for you all.

Respectfully Submitted,

Rhoda Quint, CTC
NHTCA President
