Recommended Policy Proposals

The Committee on Government Affairs (CGA) divides into three policy committees: Municipal Administration and Finance Management; Planning and Environmental Quality; and General Government, Revenue and Intergovernmental Relations. Each committee discusses policy proposals submitted by members and other local officials.

The three subcommittees have completed their review of all submitted policy proposals and presented their policy recommendations to the Municipal Advocacy Committee. Copies were sent by mail to key officials in late June. The final recommended proposals of each subcommittee can also be viewed via the links below.

Delegates will also vote on floor proposals that have been submitted by member cities and towns. The deadline for submitting floor proposals was Wednesday, August 6, 2008, and no additional proposals will be accepted at this time. Floor proposals must have been approved by a majority vote of the governing body (Board of Selectmen, Aldermen or Council) of the town or city submitting the proposal, submitted in writing and received no later than August 6, 2008. We will mail all floor proposals to each municipality so there will be an opportunity to take a position on them before the Policy Conference.

Legislative Policy Conference
The 2009-2010 Legislative Policy Conference is scheduled for Friday, September 12, at 9 a.m. at the Local Government Center in Concord. Prior to the Legislative Policy Conference, we urge each governing body to vote a position on the recommendations and floor proposals to provide direction to your voting delegate at the conference. Otherwise, your delegate is free to cast your municipality’s vote as he/she chooses. We will include with the floor proposal mailing a card for each town and city to return indicating who has been appointed as the municipality’s voting delegate.

Please contact the Government Affairs staff at 800.852.3358, ext. 384, if you have any questions.
