KITTERY, Maine - Police found a package of marijuana the size of an air conditioner inside the Jeep he was allegedly driving.
The nearly 25 pounds of marijuana is estimated to be worth $80,000, according to Kittery Police Detective Steve Hamel.
The arrest came as part of a two-week investigation involving the Kittery and York police departments and agents from the federal Drug Enforcement Administration.
York Police Officer Owen Davis detected the smell of marijuana emanating from within the vehicle, said Hamel.
Kittery Patrol Officer Jay Durgin and his K-9 partner, Hanna, were called to the scene to assist.
"Hanna was immediately alerted to the whole vehicle," Durgin said Wednesday.
The dog located the box and police later seized the marijuana, which was shrink-wrapped in a sealed box, according to police.
The marijuana, which is believed to have come from Texas or Arizona, will be sent to a state laboratory for analysis, Hamel said.
