LACONIAA man who allegedly stole a motor vehicle and fled when police stopped him was captured early this morning.

Police said the suspect, who has refused to identify himself, was stopped on Lakeside Avenue just after midnight by Officer Robert Cameron.

A check of the license plate showed that the vehicle had been stolen in Milwaukee.

The suspect jumped out a window and ran.

Cameron ordered the suspect to stop but he continued to run toward Endicott Beach.

When the officer chased him, the suspect jumped into the water, swam across the Weirs channel and ran into the woods.

Officers Jonathan Howe, Justin Blanchette and Michael Finogle with K9 Yogi responded and surrounded the area.

Yogi tracked the suspect to Daytona Fun Park off Route 11B, where he was found hiding behind a tree.

Sgt. Richard Simmons said the suspect refused to give them his name or comply with booking procedures.

He was taken to the Belknap County Department of Corrections jail.

He was scheduled to be arraigned in Laconia District Court this morning.
