Coos County Unincorporated Joins NH Municipal Association
Becomes 235th member of non-partisan membership organization

Press release, issued November 3, 2009

Coos County Unincorporated Places is the newest member of the New Hampshire Municipal Association (NHMA). The Coos group includes the following 23 places: Atkinson & Gilmanton Academy Grant; Bean’s Grant; Bean’s Purchase; Cambridge; Chandler’s Purchase; Crawford’s Purchase; Cutt’s Grant; Dix’s Grant; Dixville; Erving’s Grant; Green’s Grant; Hadley’s Purchase; Kilkenney; Low and Burbank’s Grant; Martin’s Location; Millsfield; Odell; Pinkham’s Grant; Sargent’s Purchase; Second College Grant; Success; Thompson and Meserve Purchase; and Wentworth Location.

“The Coos County Commissioners, acting as Selectmen for Coos County’s 23 Unincorporated Places, are pleased to join NHMA’s membership,” said Coos County Unincorporated Places Administrator Suzanne Collins. “The Unincorporated Places are home to only 100 full-time residents, but their land area is one-third of Coos County, which is responsible for all the traditional municipal functions in these places. Its elected and appointed officials look forward to taking advantage of NHMA’s advocacy support as well as its value-added educational and training programs.”

According to New Hampshire Local Government Center’s Associate Executive Director for Member Relations Jonathan Steiner, the Coos group’s membership in NHMA boosts NHMA total membership to “more than 100 percent with all of New Hampshire’s 13 cities and 221 towns already participating.”

The NHMA is a nonprofit, non-partisan membership organization of municipalities which provides advocacy support for municipal governments plus educational and training programs for local officials and employees. Advocacy activities are governed by a Municipal Advocacy Committee of municipal officials from throughout New Hampshire and represented at the State House by a dedicated government affairs staff. In addition, NHMA membership benefits include an array of legal and personnel services, professional workshops and a variety of educational publications.

New Hampshire Local Government Center is home to the NHMA, HealthTrust, Property-Liability Trust and Workers’ Compensation Program. Originally founded as NHMA in 1941 for the purpose of exchanging information in the interest of more efficient and effective local government, the LGC is a nonprofit organization and serves as a supportive resource for local governments.
