STRATEGIC PLAN

NHAFC ORGANIZATION ISSUES

Public Relations
  1. NHAFC will form a committee to investigate hiring a public relations company to represent the interests of the Association. This committee will report back to the NHAFC Board of Directors with recommendations.
  2. NHAFC will put together on a biannual basis a directory of Fire Chiefs for the State of New Hampshire and distribute to all Fire Department's in the State of New Hampshire.
  3. NHAFC will put together a new recruitment brochure using the Municipal Assn.'s resources. The new brochure will be send to every Fire Department in the State of New Hampshire.
Grant Writing/Procurement
  1. NHAFC will meet with the New Hampshire Office of Emergency Management to assess grants that are available to New Hampshire Fire Department's. The Association then will advise its members and keep them updated as to what they need to do to get these grants.
  2. NHAFC will make sure that there is a NHAFC member representing the Fire service on all committees and boards that distribute monies to communities and State Agencies that effect the Fire Chiefs of New Hampshire.

COMMUNICATIONS

Internet/welcome page/communications

  1. The New Hampshire Association of Fire Chiefs will approach the Municipal Assn. to set up a New Hampshire Association Fire Chief web site. This will be completed within six months of the approval of the strategic plan.

Speaking with unified voice

  1. The president of the Association will appoint a committee to establish a code of ethics for the New Hampshire Association of Fire Chiefs.
  2. The New Hampshire Association of Fire Chiefs within the next year will set up a meeting with all Fire service organizations to discuss common interests to include; mutual aid, labor, volunteers, hazardous Materials, common political issues, etc.
  3. The Association during the month of March and December will hold lunchon meetings to be able to better communicate issues during the legislative session.
Legislative/political action

Codes

  1. The Association will make the code committee a permanent subcommittee under the legislative committee, members will be appointed by the president. Their duties to encompass a review on codes issues making recommendations to the legislative committee in regards to matters involving Building and Fire codes.
  2. New Hampshire Association of Fire Chiefs will create A. E-mail communications system. This should make an efficient system for the President, Board of Directors, Legislative Committee, to expedite communications with all association members on emerging issues.

1. Statewide Mutual Aid System- The New Hampshire Fire Chiefs will assign a member to join the Federation of Mutual Aid Association to act as the organizations liason to help with the development of a statewide mutual aid system.

2. Partnerships with other organizations- The New hampshire association of Fire Chiefs will within the next year, identify which organization they wish to partner with and assign a member to meet with each organization to discuss common goals and future ventures. (PFFNH, NHMA, PRIMEX, ect)

PROFESSIONAL/EXECUTIVE SKILLS DEVELOPMENT

Professional development

RO 1. The New Hampshire Association of Fire Chiefs will solicit input via a survey of the membership to determine critical areas for professional development. The results of the survey will be forwarded to the Professional Development Committee to develop a schedule to meet the organizations educational needs.

Technology

RO 2. Technology- The New Hampshire Association of Fire Chiefs will utilize new technology to communicate throughout the organization information on meetings, professional development seminars and national issues. E- mail will be used to transmit information to as many members as possible to decrease costs of postage.

FIRE AND LIFE SAFETY

RO1. Firefighter Safety- The New Hampshire Association of Fire Chiefs will incorporate into the mission statement a clause embracing the need to reduce firefighter deaths and injuries as a primary goal of the organization. The NHAFC will partner with the PFFNH to adopt standards such as NFPA 1500 and 1710 and conduct professional development sessions to help members educate their communities on how to move these important standards forward and how to be creative in funding these programs.

Manpower issues

2. Manpower issues- The New Hampshire Associaition of Fire Chifs will develop educational handouts and videos directed towards the average taxpayer and then to elected officials educationg them on the importance of adequate staffing for safety. The NHAFC will partner again with the PFFNH on this issue. The NHAFC will reconsider the vote of 2000 to not support the NH DOL 2in 2out language.
