2012 Local Officials Workshops

Presented by New Hampshire Local Government Center’s Legal Services attorneys, the 2012 Local Officials Workshops provide newly elected and appointed municipal officials with tools and information to effectively serve their communities. Topics will include the Right to Know Law, ethics and conflicts, town governance, public employment, liability and more. Interactive discussion groups will offer an opportunity to test scenarios, discuss concerns, ask questions and share ideas. Each participant will receive a complimentary copy of LGC’s 2012 edition publication, Knowing the Territory—A Survey of Municipal Law for New Hampshire Local Officials, newly revised to reflect the latest statutory changes and Supreme Court decisions.

School custodians have just ten weeks to make repairs, clean, and prepare school buildings for the next school year. A collaborative effort between staff and faculty will help to reduce clutter and remove potential allergens before the start of summer vacation.

This free webinar will demonstrate how to prepare your classroom before the cleaning crew arrives. Presenters will use the Classroom Cleanout Checklist and material from the federal EPA Tools for Schools Program.

Investigating Social Network Officer Misconduct

This two day program will help police department supervisors and investigators create social media policies that establish standards for both officers and civilian employees. The workshop will emphasize the growing use of electronic communications, including social media such as Facebook and Twitter and email and texting, and encourage department heads to set clear limits on what is acceptable, both at work and outside work. The workshop will stress the need to respond to misconduct on social media promptly and appropriately, and to publicize the department’s zero tolerance policy within the community.

New Hampshire Local Government Center (LGC) is partnering with Municipal Resources, Inc. - a regional consulting firm dedicated to providing support services to municipalities and schools - to offer the LGC Academy. It provides a unique combination of live instruction plus e-learning and self-guided projects supplemented with 24/7 access to online resources.

Basic Accounting for School Districts is designed to provide participants with an understanding of the fundamental principles of accounting that are unique to how school districts operate. The course will take students from debits and credits to a full understanding of the accounting transaction cycle so that they can produce a trial balance for auditors.

Interactive Use of Force Simunitions Training, Durham

This intense, interactive training program for law enforcement personnel provides hands-on instruction in dealing with highly stressful, real-life scenarios. The class, designed to be a step up from training at the recruitment level, provides officers with opportunities to learn and practice techniques for dealing with unexpected and dangerous challenges. The workshop may be structured to comply with the New Hampshire Police Standards and Training four-hour, firearms recertification program. The class also provides a review of RSA 627:5, Use of Force.
This training is open to full and part-time, sworn, law enforcement personnel from member groups of the New Hampshire Local Government Center’s Property-Liability Trust or Workers’ Compensation Program. It is recommended for all officers, no matter their rank or years of experience.
